HARDWOODS
The Preference For Hardwood

Many families are drawn to the sheer beauty and captivation of solid hardwood caskets.
Hardwood caskets are appropriate for those with discriminating tastes, and an appreciation for the
traditional look that embodies warmth, elegance and simplicity, versus
the flashiness that often characterizes most metal
units. Those who are drawn to hardwood are less concerned
with eye appeal in favor of a more classic, toned-down effect.
Wood casket products tend to down-play eye appeal in favor of accentuating the finish.
Solid Hardwood Caskets do come from “Mother Nature”, a
natural-renewable resource. Wood Caskets are constructed from
several different species of wood such as Mahogany, Walnut, Cherry, Maple, Oak, Pecan, Poplar, Pine and Cedar.
Wood Caskets represent both the warmth and beauty of fine, hand rubbed
furniture, manufactured by generations of craftsmen. Naturally, the
cost of a wood casket is determined by the particular species used in
its construction.
What are the factors when considering wood vs metal?
Wood tends to have a
'warmer', more traditional appearance. It also tends to be more
elegant, less flashy appearance. Wood can be adorned with almost any
type of external decorations that you might desire.
Metal tends to be
'colder' and have a more austere appearance. It also tends to be
preferred by a more progressive customer with somewhat flashier, more
modern taste. Metal provides an advantage over wood in this category in
that it can be molded and stamped with almost any type of design that
one might desire for the eternal resting place of your loved one.
Though hardwood caskets are not included in our regular inventory, West Georgia Mortuary can obtain any design to your liking, and maintain a variety of hardwood catalogs for your review.
